Roy, the 10 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Griffey, residing on the Leaseman farm three and a half miles Northeast of Lathrop, died on Friday morning last after only a few days of malignant scarlet fever. The remains were entered in the family lot in the Lathrop cemetery on Saturday.
Zella, the 6 year old sister of Roy, was also taken sick with the same disease on Thursday, the day preceding his death, and like him, passed away after all illness of only 105 hours on Sabbath evening at 6 o'clock. Her body was brought to the Lathrop cemetery on Tuesday at 3 o'clock p. m. and laid away by the side of the remains of her brother whose spirit awaited her in the better land. The bereaved parents have the sincere sympathy of many friends and neighbors in their double affliction.

DEATH OF PIONEER
Anthony C. Griffy, 80 years old, and long a resident of this section, passed away at his home northeast of Lathrop Friday after several months illness. The funeral was held at the Christian church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. G. B. Draper of the Lathrop M. E. church, assisted by Rev. Swearingen of the Christian church. Internment was in the Lathrop cemetery.
Anthony C. Griffy was born in Anderson County, Kentucky March 12 , 1845 and departed this life July 24 1925, aged 80 years, 4 months and 12 days. At the age sixteen years he united with the Christian church and remained a member of that denomination to the end of his life. On December 24, 1864, he was united in marriage to Lucinda Reynolds.
They came to Missouri on October 16, 1870 and settled near Lathrop, where they lived till March 20 1886 when she departed this life. He was married to Mary A. Yeck June 17, 1887 who survives him. To this union seven children children were born. Three preceded him in death in early childhood. The four surviving are Miss Carrie Griffy of Centerview, MO., Mrs. R. M. Crowley and Mrs. Lincoln Walker of Lathrop and Mrs. G. W. Jenkins of Plattsburg. Also surviving are two grand children, Edith and Merle Crowley.
Mr. Griffy had spoken to his family during his illness as having no fear of death and of being ready and prepared to go. His only regret was leaving behind his friends and loved ones.
Mr. Griffy possessed a kindly disposition and was a man who made many friends. The large attendance at the funeral rites was a mark of the regard in which he was held. The sympathy of friends is extended to the family.
