Kafka, Marie (Schimke) (Huntington) East Lansing, MI Formerly of Muskegon, MI Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to many passed away on December 5, 2004 at the age of 88. She was born on February 3, 1916 in Onekema, Manistee Co., MI to John and Augusta (Lenz) Schimke who, along with 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and special niece, Lois Baker, have preceded her in death. She married Rolla Huntington on December 25, 1936 and he preceded her in death in 1957. In 1963, she married Chester Kafka, who preceded her in death in 1986. Marie lived in Muskegon for 60 years before moving to East Lansing, to be near her family. She is survived by: 2 daughters, Janice (Benjamin) Kinsey of DeWitt and DeLinn (Thomas) Moore of Phoenix, AZ; 4 special grandchildren, Jim (Tammy) Kinsey, Jon (Jennifer) Kinsey, Christina Botbyl, and Theresa Artis; 8 great grandchildren, Krista and Kyle Kinsey, Anna Kinsey, Tara, Kathleen, and Nicole McLaughlin, and Scott and Jake Artis. Marie also leaves: special nieces, Shirley, Donna, Fayne, and Marian; and many special friends at East Glen Apartments. She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Muskegon, and a current member of Hope Lutheran Church in DeWitt. She retired from the Norton Shore School System in Muskegon, where she was the manager of the high school cafeteria. In 2004, she was honored by the Lansing Area Girl Scout Council for her contribution of over 300 hand made doll blankets. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Hope Lutheran Church, 1180 W. Herbison Road, DeWitt, with the Rev. Dr. Albert B. Collver officiating. Interment will follow in Mona View Cemetery, Muskegon. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8th at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church or to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in memory of Marie Kafka.
