James Saunders Wakefield, 73, city recorder for more than ten years in DayJames Saunders Wakefield, 73, city recorder for more than ten years in Dayton, died Wednesday in Dayton after a short illness.
A prominent citizen of Dayton, Wakefield had lived most of his life therA prominent citizen of Dayton, Wakefield had lived most of his life there. He had been city recorder two or three different times, and had served for four or five years in succession at the time of his death. He had also been recorder before moving to Lakeview for a few years and upon his return, reassumed the job.
Water superintendent many years ago, Wakefield was said by many to know moWater superintendent many years ago, Wakefield was said by many to know more about Dayton's water system than any other man.

Sunnyside, L. N. (Bus) Andrus, 73, a long time Sunnyside resident and busiSunnyside, L. N. (Bus) Andrus, 73, a long time Sunnyside resident and businessman, died Monday in Valley memorial Hospital. He was born in Walla Walla where he spent his early years and received his education.
On April 9, 1928, he married Henrietta Schoesler in Dayton. After their maOn April 9, 1928, he married Henrietta Schoesler in Dayton. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Walla Walla and Milton-Freewater, Ore. In 1941, the couple moved to Sunnyside where Mr. Andrus was employed by Mojonniers and sons.
He later became manager of company. In 1951, he and Carl Funk began Funk aHe later became manager of company. In 1951, he and Carl Funk began Funk and Andrus Produce Co. In 1952, they were joined by Guy Roberts. Mr. Andrus and Roberts became sole owners of Andrus and Roberts Produce Co., in 1959.

He was a long-time member of the Washington State Horsebreeders' Association; a member of the Lower Valley Elks Club, No. 2112; a member of Sunnyside Masonic Lodge, No. 138 F&AM; and a member of the Yakima Shriners.
